The Middle East and Northern Africa has the highest prevalence of diabetes as a world region, with five countries making the top 10 ranking. In Egypt, 42% of people with diabetes experience early-stage eye disease and 5% of people with the condition are legally blind.
IDF estimates that there are currently 34 million people living with diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa1. Without concerted action throughout the region to tackle risk factors that are fuelling the epidemic of type 2 diabetes, that number is set to almost double by 2030.
