Did you know?Venezuela is currently among the 50 countries with the highest rates of obesity and overweight. It is believed that within a decade, more than half of the 10 most obese nations will be in the Latin America – among them Venezuela. Obesity rates have risen considerably in Latin America since the 1980s, coinciding with an increase in consumption of processed foods. The numbers of people affected by obesity-related type 2 diabetes are expected to continue climbing. According to WHO, diabetes is already the fourth cause of death in Venezuela behind heart disease, stroke and violence. Diabetes is responsible for 7% of total mortality. |
