Diabetes awareness week kicks off today in the European Parliament in Brussels, coinciding with World Diabetes Day which is celebrated each year on 14 November. Hosted by Sarah Ludford MEP in collaboration with IDF Europe, the week aims at raising awareness of the diabetes epidemic through a series of initiatives.
Under the theme "Ingredients for a Healthty Lifestyle", the one-week campaign includes a wide range of activities from healthy lunches on offer all week in Brussels, Luxembourg and in Strasbourg from 18 to 22 November, as well as special sports sessions to learn all there is to know about being active.
On Wednesday 13 November, a special focus will be brought on access to diabetes treatment with the release of the initial findings of the IDF Europe study on Access to Quality Medicines and Medical Devices for Diabetes Care in Europe, which will be discussed during a brealfast meeting with experts, MEPs and other stakeholders.
