The Diabetes Society of Maldives awarded by WHO

The Executive Board of the World Health Organisation awarded the Dr LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health 2013 to the Diabetes Society of Maldives for their outstanding contribution in the field of public health.

The Diabetes Society of Maldives (DSM) was established on 26th April 2000 (previously known as Diabetes and Cancer Society of Maldives) and became a member of the International Diabetes Federation in 2002, with the aim of creating awareness among the public on diabetes and to emphasize on the importance on prevention of diabetes to help patients lead a normal life with their illness. They also act as a centre of information on diabetes by educating the society through screening programmes, presentation, consultation and health Education. In addition DSM also works to improve diabetes care throughout the country.

The Diabetes Society of Maldives will receive its award on 23 May 2013 in Geneva at the WHO Headquarters.
