Latest evidence in diabetes prevalence

Studies of diabetes prevalence are being published regularly, but do not always get included in time to contribute to the estimates presented in the Diabetes Atlas. Many newer studies, particularly in developing countries, show large increases from those previously conducted in the countries and the reported prevalence will often exceed the conservative estimate produced by the Atlas.

We are compiling an online library of studies selected in the Atlas, as well as some of those studies published in the peer-reviewed literature we come across which have not been included in this edition of the Atlas, but which will be entered into the system and considered for the next set of figures.

The online library can be found here: https://www.zotero.org/groups/idf_diabetes_atlas/items/

In particular, the Atlas favors large, nationally representative, population-based studies that are published in peer-reviewed literature. While we do consider other sources of data, these types of studies continue to provide the best evidence on the prevalence of diabetes.

You may join the online library and send us your information. We encourage you to contact us with any new data you may have for your country that you think should be considered at: atlas@idf.org.
