Diabetes Asia 2014

The prevalence of diabetes, particularly type 2, is on the increase. This rise is most marked in developing countries, including Malaysia. There is therefore an urgent need for strategies to prevent this 'epidemic' and early diagnosis of diabetes. There is also a need to ensure optimal management of the diseases, its complications and associated conditions.

2014 Cardiometabolic Health Congress

Diabesity

The global increase of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) has epidemic proportions. Worldwide, an estimated 2.16 billions subjects are overweight or obese and 382 million people have diabetes, a number that will rise to 592 million by 2035. This pandemic may portend severe consequences in Nephrology. The global increase in chronic kidney disease parallels the obesity epidemic. Obesity (starting from the overweight range) is an independent risk factors for chronic kidney disease.

Nordic Diabetic Foot Symposium

The Nordic Diabetic Foot Task Force has initiated the first Nordic Diabetic Symposium with the aim to actively promote and support the systematic implementation of best practices in diabetic foot care in the Nordic countries.

The symposium will provide a forum for sharing and disseminating high-level scientific evidence as well as local examples of best practices in diabetic foot care. The programme will comprise sessions with invited speakers and hands-on workshops.

World Diabetes Day Bookcrossing Release Challenge

Planned annual release between 7 and 14 November of books throughout the world bearing unique tracking code (BCID) which allows the finder to track, and follow a book's journey though its life. BookCrossers are a global community, happy to share their books by giving them to others, or leaving them where they can be found. This 'challenge' is to help raise awareness of diabetes and to encourage support groups to become involved.
