IDF Europe joins public health community NGOs in support of WHO Europe Action Plan on Food and Nutrition

IDF Europe and several other public health community NGOs led by EPHA, the European Public Health Alliance, have expressed their support for the WHO European Region Food and Nutrition Action Plan 2014-2020 currently under preparation in a letter sent to WHO Europe this 17 June 2013.

The group strongly welcomes this much-needed continuation of a strategic approach towards comprehensive food and nutrition policies in a Region characterized by an epidemic-proportion double burden of malnutrition. In this regard, it considers the Plan an important decision reflecting a weighty commitment to eliminate avoidable diseases and premature deaths, advance health and reduce health inequalities among the European population.

IDF Europe and its partners advocate for the Action Plan to be guided by fundamental requirements including universal and equitable access to nutritious food, and the development or strengthening of integrated food and nutrition policies, including through legislation and regulation in food marketing restrictions, affordability of food and nutrition education and skills.
