IDF Europe supports statement on Nutrition and NCDs at 63rd WHO Regional Committee meeting

IDF Europe is supporting a joint statement that will be delivered tomorrow at the 63rd WHO Regional Committee for Europe meeting in Izmir, Turkey.

The statement has been submitted by the World Cancer Research Fund International, and on behalf of other organisations concerned with nutrition and non-communicable diseases: the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians, European Heart Network, European Public Health Alliance, International Association for the Study of Obesity.

The document focuses on the outcomes of the WHO Europe Ministerial Conference on Nutrition and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) held in Vienna this July, which resulted in the signing of the Vienna Declaration. It also looks forward to the development of a renewed Food and Nutrition Action Plan for Europe, as envisaged in the Vienna Declaration.

Within the framework of the WHO Regional meeting for Europe, the NGOs ask for:

  1. Ensure a healthier media environment for our children
  2. Create the right conditions for a healthy start
  3. Improve the quality of the food supply
