Lack of consistency and uniformity in screening for gestational diabetes in India

A survey undertaken by the International Diabetes Federation's gestational diabetes (GDM) project, WINGS, highlights the lack of consistency and uniformity in screening and management of GDM in India, and the constraints experienced by patients and healthcare professionals.

Issues experienced on the ground in India are also common around the world. The WINGS pilot project in Chennai, India, will pave the way for new GDM guidelines, as part of a Model of Care, suitable for use in other low and middle income countries . The Model of Care will help to unify practice in GDM care by offering a feasible and effective set of guidelines ,which can be integrated into existing systems for maternal and child health.
