Cambodia is a small Southeast Asian country, sitting between Vietnam and Thailand on the Gulf of Thailand. Laos covers its northern border. Most Cambodians consider themselves to be Khmers, descendants of the Angkor Empire that extended over much of Southeast Asia and peaked in the period 900-1299. Khmers make up 90% of the population and Khmer is the official language.
