Diabetes Tasmania Sri Lanka Cycle Challenge raises funds for LFAC

A group of 20 amateur cyclists from Tasmania, Australia, led by adventurer Caroline Thomas, who has type 1 diabetes, recently completed a 12 day, 600km adventure ride through Sri Lanka. With support from local guides, the group, some with diabetes, travelled from Colombo to Polonnaruwa raising money and awareness of diabetes.

The trip culminated with a visit to the National Diabetes Centre in Colombo, headquarters of the Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka (DASL).  Having worked with the IDF Life for a Child Programme since 2004, DASL was able to introduce participants to a number of local children and youth with diabetes, and share with participants what life living with diabetes is like in Sri Lanka. This was the highlight of the trip for many of the riders.
