Rotary International have assisted the Life for a Child Programme in a number of countries. The first of these is Bolivia, where a partnership was initiated in 2003 with District 6940 in Florida and the local Bolivian Rotary Club of Quillacollo to support quality care for children and youth with diabetes in the country.
District 6940 has been able to collect tax-exempt donations on the Programme's behalf in the US, and has provided matching grants so the Programme could start in Nigeria and Tanzania. The Rotary Club of Lane Cove in Sydney, Australia, has provided support for establishing the Programme in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The Rotary Club of Newry in Northern Ireland made a one-off donation in early 2009 for the Programme’s work in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In July 2010, the Visalia County Center Rotary Community Support Association in California, USA, provided a grant for the Programme’s activities in Haiti, enabling the purchase of two HbA1c machines and test cartridges for use in the clinical care of local Haitian children and adolescents with diabetes.
The Rotarian Action Group for Diabetes (www.ragdiabetes.org) was formed in 2009. One of their key objectives is to support the Life for a Child Programme. Enquiries from interested Rotarians can be directed to Martin Silink.
