Tanzania is one of the 32 countries of the IDF AFR region.

382 million people have diabetes in the world and more than 19 million people in the AFR Region; by 2035 this will rise to 41.5 million.

There were 1,706,930 cases of diabetes in Tanzania in 2013.

Tanzania vs world prevalence of diabetes

The figure describes which age groups in the population have the highest proportions of diabetes. The grey line is the distribution of diabetes prevalence by age for the world; the purple line is the distribution for the region; and the country distribution is plotted in the black line. Many middle- and low-income countries have more people under the age of 60 with diabetes compared to the world average. Meanwhile, for high-income countries, a growing population over the age of 60 makes up the largest proportion of diabetes prevalence.

IDF has two Member Associations in the country.

Diabetes Association of Zanzibar is a member of IDF since1991.

Tanzania Diabetes Association is a member of IDF since 1994.
