Federación Española de Diabéticos (FEDE) was declared an institution of public interest in 2012. Created in 1988 as a result of the union of 95% of the diabetic associations in Spain, was established in 1969, thanks to Professor Pallardo Peinado, after the foundation of Instituto de Diabetología de la Cruz Roja Española y Lucha Antidiabético de la Cruz Roja Española ( LACRE ) which generated a need for diabetes associations in Spain.

Main Focus

  • Promote and develop actions to improve the education, information and the quality of life of people with diabetes and their families
  • Inform, guide, coordinate and represent people with diabetes in public and private, national and international organizations
  • Provide service for the defense of people with diabetes
  • Increase diabetes education in all its forms

FEDE´s activities are based around the work of local associations and therefore one of our main duties is to find media platforms where activities and information can be promoted. The activities are aimed at training people with diabetes, both type 1 and type 2, and also their families, and most topics are related to cooking, food and nutrition, research and diabetes complications.

World Diabetes Day

Every year for two decades hundreds of associations in Spain mark World Diabetes Day with events and activities aligned to the campaigns slogans and key messages. The organization is a success and thousands of volunteers are mobilized to support diabetes. The activities organized are aimed at improving and increasing access to diabetes education, raising awareness on diabetes prevention and includes lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops on nutrition, physical activities and treatment. Sports activities such as hiking, walks and special retreats are also part of the WDD programme.
