New development agenda must serve "people and planet"

On Tuesday, the United Nations (UN) released a summary report reflecting the views of more than one million people from UN Member States on the post-2015 development agenda.

The report called for the reduction of the NCD burden through targeted interventions. To help achieve this reduction, the report stressed the need for increased government accountability and a focus on concrete, measurable goals.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said, "These million voices tell us that we have a big and urgent job ahead: to agree on a new development agenda that carries the same simplicity and strength as the MDG framework - an agenda that serves both people and the planet".

These key messages for governments and all other stakeholders will be taken into account in the current discussions around the new development agenda post 2015.
