IDF builds on WHO vision for a healthy future

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is reforming its programmes and policy, financing and management and governance in order to better address the health challenges of the21st century. This reform is very timely - just months after the UN High-Level Summit on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and consensus reached by 193 UN Member States to accelerate global progress on diabetes and NCDs.

One of the greatest challenges that the IDF Life for a Child Programme faces in providing quality care to allthe children and young people with diabetes that it supports is the cost of test strips. Their prohibitive cost restricts the number of children that can monitor their diabetes appropriately.

BRIDGES project shows that diabetes risk factors in young Sri Lankans are much higher than previously thought

Scientists at King's College London and the National Diabetes Centre (Sri Lanka) have found evidence of a high number of risk factors for type 2 diabetes among the young urban population in Sri Lanka. The study is the first large-scale investigation into diabetes risk among children and young people in South Asia, and provides further evidence that the region is rapidly becoming a hotspot in the growing international diabetes epidemic.

IDF Europe & Danish EU Presidency discuss ways to reduce diabetes burden

The London School of Economics (LSE) released their policy recommendations on Reducing the Burden of Diabetes in Europe at an event held at the European Parliament, 25 January 2012 hosted by Danish MEP, Christel Schaldemose and the Danish Diabetes Association represented by CEO Henrik Nedergaard.
