To mark World Diabetes Day, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has released the latest global and regional diabetes statistics.

Diabetes on the increase in Europe

Rising tide of diabetes in Europe reinforces need for prevention and education

New estimates indicate that 55 million of the European adult population will have diabetes by the end of 2012, compared to 53 million last year. The figures, released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) today to mark World Diabetes Day 2012, also indicate that at least 21.2 million people in Europe are yet to be diagnosed.

APDP receives IDF Europe Prize in Diabetes

The Portuguese Diabetes Association APDP was presented with the first IDF Europe Prize in Diabetes today on World Diabetes Day at an awarding ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels.

WHO agrees first-ever Non-communicable Disease targets

In a major breakthrough at the World Health Organisation (WHO) this week, governments agreed an aspirational set of targets to drive progress on diabetes and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including the first ever global target to halt the rise of diabetes. On the 7 November 2012, after lengthy negotiations in Geneva, governments agreed a Global Monitoring Framework including 9 global targets and 25 indicators on diabetes and NCDs.

IDF partner supports LFAC on World Diabetes Day

International Diabetes Federation partner Boehringer Ingelheim will be continuing their support of the IDF Life for a Child Programme by donating the proceeds of an employee 3km run that will be held at the company's headquarters on November 14 - World Diabetes Day. A total of €20,000 will be donated to the programme. This is the fourth consecutive year that the company organises an initiative in support of Life for a Child.

Fondation de l’Orangerie exceptionally renews two year grant

The Fondation de l’Orangerie and its donors have renewed a grant with IDF to support the Life for a Child programme. The renewal is exceptional and demonstrates their strong commitment to IDF’s humanitarian programme. The grant will run for two years and will be used to help introduce and facilitate self-monitoring of blood glucose for thousands of children and youth.
