IDF President : Strong collective voice on NCDs in Africa is essential

Jean Claude Mbanya, IDF President, has given the keynote speech at the WHO Africa region consultation on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). This meeting, attended by Ministers of Health and WHO representatives in Africa, is the first regional consultation  since the UN Summit on NCDs in 2011. The consultation will run from October 8-10.

“Today is the dawn of another millennium for NCDs” said Professor Mbanya and called on Health Ministers to ensure “every African, whether they have an NCD or a communicable disease, has an equal chance of living.”

We've come a long way but we're not done yet

This quarter marked the one year anniversary of the UN High-Level Summit on NCDs. I have been reflecting on this anniversary and asking myself, one year on, what progress has been made and where we stand in terms of IDF’s mission of promoting diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide.

D-NET is 2 years old!

The Diabetes Education Network for Health Professionals (D-NET) is celebrating two years since its launch back at the 2010 EASD meeting in Stockholm. Developed as a response to requests from health professionals, the 1,700 member-strong virtual network demonstrates IDF’s commitment to health professional education and collaboration. It has become a successful virtual community of practice.

Simon Busuttil wins MEP Award in Health

Member of European Parliament Simon Busuttil was awarded the 2012 MEP of the Year Award in the Health category for his continuous and successful efforts to put diabetes on the EU agenda.

The award was presented by EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic at a ceremony in Brussels yesterday evening in recognition of Simon Busuttil’s work in the European Parliament to improve the lives of people living with diabetes in Europe.
