IDF partner organises special activity to raise funds for Life for a Child

On 1-4 June, IDF Corporate Partner Boehringer Ingelheim continued its support for the Federation's Life for a Child Programme by raising funds with a special activity organised at their booth during the annual meeting of the German Diabetes Association (DiabetesDE) in Leipzig.


2011 campaign posters now available

Five new posters have been produced by the International Diabetes Federation to promote the slogan - Act on Diabetes. Now - and key messages of the third year of our 2009-2013 focus on diabetes education and prevention:

IDF President co-authors Lancet paper on NCDs

IDF President Jean Claude Mbanya has co-authored a paper answering four questions for the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs to be held in New York on 19-20 September. Other authors include Lancet editor Richard Horton; Robert Beaglehole, Emeritus Professor, University of Auckland; Sir George Allyene, Director Emeritus of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO); Peter Piot, Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health at LSHTM.

Life for a Child film wins award at Houston International Film Festival

'In the Hearts of Africa', the second in the Life for a Child documentary film series, has been awarded the Silver Medal at the Houston International Film Festival, which recently took place on 8-17 April.

Filmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, "In the Hearts of Africa" features children with type 1 diabetes in the country, following their day-to-day lives as they struggle to survive in the impoverished capital city of Kinshasa.

The World Diabetes Day 2011 campaign marks the third year of the International Diabetes Federation's five-year focus on "Diabetes education and prevention," the theme chosen for the period 2009-2013.

2011 is a milestone year for the over 300 million people living with diabetes.

IDF President addresses Commonwealth Health Ministers

Speaking in Geneva on 15 May, IDF President Jean Claude Mbanya made the keynote address at the opening session of the Commonwealth Health Minister’s Meeting. In his speech, titled “NCDs and the Commonwealth: Changing the Future”, the IDF President recalled the growing global dimensions of the epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which now kills 36 million people every year.
