IDF CEO discusses global impact of NCDs
International Diabetes Federation CEO/Executive Director Ann Keeling appeared on May 19 on Voice of America TV – In Focus, where she was interviewed about the impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on the world. NCDs have now reached epidemic proportions and account for more than 60% of global mortality. The interview was conducted on the margins of an event organized by the International Diabetes Federation, International Union Against Cancer and World Heart Federation in Geneva during the World Health Assembly.

World Diabetes Day car takes third at the Caliente 250
Desert Dingo Racing's '69 VW Beetle - the official World Diabetes Day off road race car - took third in class in the Caliente 250 desert race outside Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) on May 9. This follows on from their 5th place finish in the Mint 400 on March 29.
Boston Scientific launches social media campaign for diabetes awareness
Boston Scientific, a World Diabetes Day official partner, has launched a new social media campaign to spread information about diabetes to people around the globe. The campaign consists of a Twitter feed, a Facebook Group, and a YouTube Channel (see the links below). WDD Team members at the company have been posting important facts about diabetes as Twitter updates and Facebook Group Member messages.
Six months to go to World Diabetes Day!
After a consultation period that included IDF member associations and other key stakeholders from the diabetes world, the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization selected 'Diabetes Education and Prevention' as the theme for the 2009 to 2013 World Diabetes Day campaigns.
The campaign slogan this year is: "Understand Diabetes and Take Control."

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has launched its World Diabetes Day campaign under the slogan “Understand diabetes and take control.”
