Ruth Colagiuri from Australia is currently a Vice-President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) for the 2009-2012 triennium, and Chair of the IDF Task Force on National Diabetes Policy and Action.
Ruth is Director of the Diabetes Unit, Menzies Centre for Health Policy, University of Sydney, Australia and leads the Health Theme of the University’s Institute for Sustainable Solutions. She has worked extensively in diabetes clinical services, as senior policy analyst in a State Health Department, and as a public health practitioner. She is a life member of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), and a past Vice-President of ADEA and Diabetes Australia. Ruth has a strong track record in diabetes policy and planning, having been involved with the Australian National Diabetes Strategy (1998), the Plan of Action for the Western Pacific Diabetes Declaration (2000), and the Diabetes Strategy for Sub?Saharan Africa (2006). Ruth works closely with Ministries of Health in Pacific Island countries to improve diabetes care and has undertaken consultancies for WHO and AusAID.
Ruth has also served on the IDF Western Pacific Region (WPR) Council since 2003 and assisted several developing WPR countries in establishing national diabetes associations.
