Because of the amendments to the governance of IDF voted at the General Council in Montreal in 2009 and the transitional arrangements resulting from these changes, the members of the Board elected in Dubai in December 2011 will only enter into office on 1 January 2013. Until then, the Board elected in Dubai will not fulfill any statutory function.
Nominating Committee
Professor Massimo Massi-Benedetti, Ms Marg McGill, Mr Denis Taschuk and Professor Rhys Williams serve with me on the Nominating Committee.
Nominations
Nominations are required for the following positions:

As of January 1, 2013 the then-existing President-Elect and the then-existing Regional Chairs-Elect elected in 2009 shall become, respectively, President and Regional Chairs and shall serve on the Board until the close of the General Council meeting to be held in 2015;

(iii) “other individual persons” means natural persons who have demonstrated an interest in the health of persons with diabetes but who are not “medical healthcare professionals” or “other healthcare professionals” as defined above.
Vice-President Finance
1 vacancy.
In anticipation of an amendment to be proposed to the Articles of Association to add a Vice-President with specific responsibility for finance as a member of the Board, the General Council mandated the Nominating Committee by postal ballot to initiate a call for candidates for this new Board position.
The Vice-President Finance, appointed to assist the Board on all IDF’s financial and accounting matters, must be qualified in accounting and have financial skills and experience.

Up to four (4) vacancies.
Article 14.4: The Nominating Committee shall consist of five (5) members. One of the members shall be the outgoing President, two of the members shall be immediately retiring Vice-Presidents and two of the members shall be immediately retiring Regional Chairs.
Comments
A person may be nominated for more than one position.
The IDF Leadership
IDF is a growing organisation, expanding throughout the world with the development of exciting and innovative programmes. Our organisation needs inspiring leaders with exceptional dedication and skills. I ask you to consider these needs as you make your suggestions.
The IDF seeks diversity of experience, nationality and profession in individuals with proven leadership ability. The Nominating Committee seeks nominations of people whose lives have been directly affected by diabetes, physicians, other healthcare professionals, leaders in other fields than healthcare, as well as others who have a serious commitment to people with diabetes around the world.
Members of the Board should have the stature, interest, time, and resources to perform their duties. It is important that Board members have the support of their national member association. While serving is an honour, it requires great commitment of time and effort. Candidates should consider whether they have the necessary management capabilities, including an understanding of administration and finance, and whether they can stimulate others to support IDF’s programmes. Most of all, though, IDF is looking for people who have a real concern for people with diabetes.
The choices that you make will impact on the immediate future of the International Diabetes Federation. We are confident that your interest in improving the lives of people with diabetes everywhere will guide you to select potential officers who will not only build upon IDF’s 56 years of experience in global advocacy, but will play a key role in shaping the future of global diabetes care. We look forward to receiving your nominations.
With best wishes

Professor Martin Silink
Chair, Nominating Committee
