Putting people at the centre of care
Saturday, May 1, 2004
The findings of the Diabetes Attitudes, Wishes and Needs (DAWN) Study provided evidence from around the world which demonstrates that diabetes care which focuses only on achieving medical targets is flawed. This issue of Diabetes Voice describes the negative effects on people's health and well-being of health systems which ignore the affective and social impact of diabetes. Models are offered for changes to diabetes care which do not require large financial investments, and which are applicable in the resource-limited developing countries. Important issues are examined related to the thinking of health-care professionals.
