Life for a Child Support
Life for a Child has been in contact with Burundian public health officials since October 2009, but it wasn’t until late December 2011, following the World Diabetes Congress in Dubai, that regular communication was established. Support was requested for 75 children/youth with diabetes, aged 10- 18 years, living in or close to the capital Bujumbura, where the Ministry of Health sought to develop a dedicated diabetes centre addressing clinical and treatment needs plus health professional training.
LFAC commenced support in 2012 and have supplied insulin, self blood glucose monitoring equipment (meters, strips, lancets), and diabetes education materials for children and doctors in English and French. Funds for local purchase of a dedicated insulin fridge have also been provided.
