Diabetes Educator Graduate Certificate
The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences is Canada’s only post-secondary institution devoted exclusively to applied health science education. Founded in 1958 as the Toronto Institute of Medical Technology, Michener was created to respond to the education requirements of health sciences professionals and for the continuing education of health care practitioners. For over 50 years, Michener has educated applied health professionals across Canada and beyond.
The Michener Institute is publicly funded by the Province of Ontario, and further enriched through partnerships with universities, private sector companies, regulatory bodies, professional associations, and leading health care organizations. Interprofessionalism and simulation-enhanced education are essentials for Michener’s academic experience for over 5,000 full-time, part-time and continuing education students.
The Michener Institute, Toronto, Canada offers a Diabetes Educator Graduate Certificate programme twice a year. The nine month programme combines distance learning and an in-person workshop. Students are mentored throughout the programme by tutors, all of whom are Certified Diabetes Educators (Canada). Students are expected to complete two written assignments, two online case discussions, two in-person presentations and a final online exam. The programme accepts students who are registered health professionals and who have at least two years experience working in their field. The programme is offered in English only, students outside Canada are welcome to register, but should be aware that attendance at the 3 day workshop, usually in Toronto, is mandatory.
