The International Diabetes Federation's Annual Report 2010 showcases the many achievements of what proved to be a landmark year, with IDF celebrating it's 60th anniversary and diabetes and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) finally rising to the forefront of global awareness and the political agenda.
A major highlight was the unanimous vote by United Nations Member States to hold a UN High-Level Summit on NCDs in September 2011. Building on previous successes such as the 2006 UN Resolution on Diabetes, this and other key policy wins in 2010 stem directly from IDF's leadership position in the diabetes and wider NCD community - and represent a true turning point in the fight against these too-long-neglected diseases.
World Diabetes Day 2010 was another huge success, uniting the global diabetes community and engaging millions of people in a powerful display of awareness and support.
On the ground, IDF continued its vital work of mobilising essential diabetes care to those in most need, improving diabetes treatment and education, strengthening our member associations and building the evidence base for diabetes. In this way, we helped bring concrete improvements to the lives of thousands of people and their families around the world.
The Annual Report 2010 showcases these successes and many more, and provides an overview of work by IDF's extensive constituency throughout 2010 to unite the diabetes world, shape the agenda and promote best practice.
