Veenoo Basant Rai from Mauritius is the Chair of the South East Asia (SEA) Region of International Diabetes Federation for 2013-2015. Presently working in the Ministry of Social Security in Mauritius as Medical Director since December 1992, she has been involved within the Ministry of Health for the past 30 years as a Medical and Health Officer and Team Leader.
Ms Basant Rai holds a Master in Public Health from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and a M.A. Counselling from the University of Technology in Mauritius. She is actively engaged in the coordination of activities related to the health of the elderly and disabled, giving various trainings to staff and the public, talks on radio and television, and lectures at the University of Mauritius.
Ms Basant Rai has been President of the Mauritius Diabetes Association since 2005, is Chair of the Ethics Committee of the D.Y. Patil Institution and is responsible for various health care projects in charitable institutions.
