In 2015, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) brings the World Diabetes Congress (WDC), the world’s largest global diabetes meeting and the only truly global meeting to Vancouver, Canada. In the home-country of Frederick Banting, co-discoverer of insulin, experts in diabetes care from around the world will exchange diabetes research and best practices. IDF estimates that 10 per cent of Canadians have diabetes. Furthermore, one in five children in the North America region has type 1 diabetes.
As a strategic location, Vancouver bridges the North American and Asia Pacific regions providing an appropriate setting for discussions on how to tackle the global diabetes epidemic.
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and snow-capped Coast Mountains, Vancouver has been chosen as one of the most liveable cities featuring the Vancouver Convention Centre, the greenest conference facility in the world. With an exceptionally good track record in hosting ground breaking events, Vancouver has optimal linguistic and logistical advantages for thousands of IDF’s global delegates.
The WDC 2015 will coincide with the expiration of the current Millennium Development Goals and the adoption of the new Post-2015 Development Framework, a major push for expanded access to diabetes prevention, treatment and a cure.
The return of WDC to Canada in 2015 will help IDF to ensure the conference has a lasting impact throughout the North America and Caribbean region as well as globally.
The World Diabetes Congress 2015 in Vancouver, Canada offers opportunities to both commercial and non-commercial organizations to showcase their products and services to the largest global gathering of diabetes healthcare professionals in the world. With over 4,000 square meters of prime exhibition space, organizations can effectively reach the international diabetes community in the global response to Diabetes.
