Public consultation on World Medical Association’s Declaration of Helsinki

The World Medical Association (WMA) has opened a two-month consultation on its Helsinki Declaration on medical research involving human subjects.

WMA invites all interested stakeholders to comment on the proposed changes to the text, which revised version has been posted on the WMA website. All experts and stakeholders are invited to submit their comments to the WMA secretariat no later than 15 June 2013.

Pharmacovigilance: New black triangle symbol for medicines subject to additional monitoring

A black inverted triangle '▼' will shortly appear on the package leaflet of certain medicinal products on the EU market, following an Implementing Regulation adopted by the European Commission today. This symbol will flag to patients and health care professionals that a medicinal product is subject to additional monitoring, and its accompanying text will encourage them to report any unexpected adverse reaction through national reporting systems.

2013 Staff Exchange Programme: call for applications

New clinical trial uses innovative eye drop treatment to combat diabetic retinopathy

A clinical trial to evaluate a new therapeutic treatment using eye drops for the early stages of diabetic retinopathy started this week, researchers announced. A group of leading European ophthalmologists, endocrinologists and researchers have gathered together under EUROCONDOR, the European Consortium on the early treatment of diabetic retinopathy, and will conduct the clinical trial in 11 clinical centres across the EU.
