Six priority health issues for Danish EU Presidency

From January 1 until June 30, Denmark will hold the presidency of the EU. It is the seventh time the country has assumed the rotating presidency.

Pia Olsen Dyr, acting Danish Health Minister, presented the presidency’s prioties to the respective committees of the European Parliament between 23 and 26 January.

The presidency has four overarching objectives calling for a responsible, dynamic, green and safe Europe.

In the area of health, there are six priorities including, the EU’s Health Strategy which comes to an end in 2013, assessing the EU Commission’s draft of the 2001 Tobacco Product Directive and debating the Commission’s Health for Growth Framework programme. All of which will have an impact on stemming the diabetes and NCD epidemic in Europe.
