When and where are the next YLD Leadership Training and the World Diabetes Congress?

The IDF's World Diabetes Congresses are held every two years. The next congress is scheduled from 2-6 December 2013, in Melbourne, Australia. The YLD Leadership Training is held prior to the congres and afterwards the Young Leaders will of course attend the congres. In 2013, the YLD Leadership Training is scheduled from 27 November - 6 December 2013. More information about the YLD meeting in Melbourne can be found here. In 2015, the WDC will be held in Vancouver.

How can I get involved with the work of the Young Leaders if I cannot be a Young Leader myself?

There are various ways to get involved with the YLD. If you belong to an organization, please Contact us through our "Contact us" form below, and we'll get back to you. If you are an individual who wants to work for diabetes, please contact the IDF Member Association in your country and ask them for making you a part of the projects being run by the Young Leaders under that particular Member Association.

What happens when the Young Leader reaches the age of 31?

After the age of 30, it is hoped that the Young Leaders join their IDF Member Associations as full Adult Leader as the YLD programme trains the future leaders of the diabetes community. They may also perform duties of mentorship to the new Young Leaders as YLD Alumni.

I do not have diabetes, but am passionate to work for the cause. Can I become a Young Leader?

We are sorry to inform you that we only select young people who are living with diabetes to become Young Leaders. Please contact your local IDF Member Association if you would like to assist the young Leader in your country with their projects.

I am under 18 or over 30 years of age. Can I apply for membership of the YLD?

As per policy, we do not accept applications for people older than 30 or younger than 18 years, as long as that is the legal age in your country. We have to oblige to the legal age in your own country. We believe that after the age of 30, the person can become an active adult member of an IDF Member Association.
