Wim Wientjens (1937-2016)

It is with great sadness and regret that the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) was informed of the passing of Dr Wim Wientjens on 28 July. For over 30 years, Wim was a tireless advocate, who served and represented the Federation in a variety of roles, both regionally and globally, and provided inspiration for countless individuals living with diabetes worldwide.

New guidelines propose that surgery be considered a standard treatment option for type 2 diabetes

Brussels, Belgium (May 24 2016)- New clinical guidelines published today and endorsed by leading international diabetes organisations, including the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), call for bariatric surgery, involving the manipulation of the stomach or intestine, to be considered a standard treatment option for type 2 diabetes.
