The voices of people with lived experience of diabetes

Benter Koech (Kenya)

Because I live with diabetes, I monitor many aspects of my lifestyle to maintain optimal blood sugar levels and minimise the risk of complications. What stands out most is the intersection between technology and diabetes management, which includes continuous glucose monitoring systems, insulin pumps and smart pens. Diabetes management is much easier with technology because it provides accurate, convenient and personalised ways to monitor blood sugar levels and administer insulin.

Joseph Matthew Sanchez (The Philippines)

My connection to diabetes runs deep. As a registered nurse, I was able to care for my late father, who lived with diabetes. Additionally, I am at risk of diabetes - living with prediabetes. Because of these connections, I decided to join the Blue Circle Voices to become a diabetes advocate. I believe it is my duty and responsibility to take action and promote awareness about diabetes.

Khushi Ahuja (India)

I am a 24-year-old diabetes advocate who has been living with diabetes for 13 years. Life has seemed like a constant battle - a never-ending cycle of blood sugar checks, insulin injections, and carefully monitoring my diet. It has been challenging, frustrating, and at times overwhelming. But through all the struggles and challenges, I realise that my life is better in countless ways. This experience has built in me a passion to advocate for the rights of people with diabetes.

Diabetic Retinopathy: A Call for Global Action

A policy brief developed by IDF and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) that advocates for a joint approach to prevent and manage vision loss in people living with diabetes by integrating diabetic retinopathy (DR) care into diabetes policies and national health plans.

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD), with up to 40% of people living with diabetes affected by CKD. This IDF Diabetes Atlas report looks at the relationship between diabetes and kidney disease across the globe and ways to reduce its impact.
