The World Diabetes Congress is one of the world’s largest health-related congresses, attracting 15,000 delegates, more than 400 high level speakers, and representatives from over 200 diabetes member associations from more than 160 countries. IDF has run the World Diabetes Congress since 1952, and the last of these biennial meetings was held in Montreal, Canada.

The IDF congress unites the global diabetes community, providing an essential forum for the dissemination and promotion of leading scientific advances and knowledge on practical aspects related to diabetes care, education and advocacy. In recent years diabetes education and the rights of people living with diabetes have become prominent themes. Participants include physicians, scientists, nurses, educators and other healthcare professionals, as well as government representatives, policy makers, people with diabetes, representatives from IDF member associations and members of the press.
