Tours

Tours and excursions are available for congress delegates before and after the congress, and for accompanying persons throughout the congress. Please note that rates are subject to change. All prices are quoted in Australian Dollars and include 10% GST.

General Information

These tours are designed by Arinex Destination Management (license No. 2TA001144), for participating delegates and accompanying persons of the World Diabetes Congress 2013. Only the best aspects of Melbourne and its environs have been incorporated to provide value for money for persons whose time is at a premium.

All sightseeing tours include informative English-speaking commentary, all entry and booking fees and meals where specified. All tours are based on a minimum number of participants. If minimum numbers are not reached, alternative arrangements or a complete refund will be made. Places on all tours are limited and will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of payment. Should participants cancel their tour bookings prior to 3 October 2013, payment will be refunded in full. Thereafter, no refund will be possible.

Penguin Parade to Phillip Island

Phillip Island boasts one of Australia’s greatest natural wildlife attractions at the Penguin Reserve. Depart Melbourne for Phillip Island, where the Fairy Penguins that nest there perform a “parade” every evening – emerging from the sea and waddling up the beach to their burrows. Be privy to one of nature’s most spectacular shows a few minutes after sunset. The tour includes entrance to the Nature Park and access to the premium viewing area. Dinner is included before returning to Melbourne in the late evening.

Melbourne City Sights

This four hour coach tour is designed to give participants an orientation of the city. The tour includes visits to points of interest such as Queen Victoria Markets, Melbourne Cricket Ground and Olympic Park, Spencer Street Station, Federation Square, The Shrine of Remembrance, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Albert Park Lake and the Grand Prix site.

Aboriginal Heritage Walk at the Royal Botanic Gardens

Experience Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens in a more traditional way by taking part in the award-winning Aboriginal Heritage Walk. An Indigenous interpreter will give you a greater understanding of the customs and rich heritage of the local Boonwurrung and Woiworung people, taking you on a journey through the camping and meeting grounds of the traditional owners of the land, against the vibrant setting of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Experience a traditional smoking ceremony and discover traditional uses of plants for food, tools and medicine.

Melbourne Highlights Bike Tour

Gathering at the hotel, take a short walk to board your bicycle and set off on a guided bicycle ride. This morning tour combines a relaxing ride along the Yarra River, a great orientation to the city while giving a bit of history. Take in the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, the Shrine of Remembrance, and the Yarra River in all of its splendour.

Yarra Valley with a taste of Healesville Sanctuary

Begin the day meeting Australia’s local wild life at Healesville Sanctuary. This is one of Australia’s most acclaimed wildlife sanctuaries. Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world's great drives, a dramatic, powerful, dangerous and majestic coastline also known as the Ship Wreck Coast. Why not extend your time on the Great Ocean Road and stay overnight at the surf coast town of Lorne. You will arrive around 10.30am with the afternoon and following morning free to relax and enjoy. Rejoin the Great Ocean Road Adventure around midday on the following day. To Loch Ard Gorge and Port Campbell shaped by the wild Southern Ocean this coastline will not fail to impress.
