Jacob Wilson

My son Jacob is my WDD hero! He may only be 13, but he is the most attentive and caring son a mother could have. I have been living with type 1 diabetes since I was eight and at 46, you would think taking care of me would be easy. Well, it's not.

I often become insensitive to the warning signs. Jacob constantly reminds me to check myself and often brings me my glucose monitor. He, like his Dad has an innate sense about him that tell him something is wrong. Strong beyond his years, he has saved my life more than once. He is my angel!

Jacob loves to cook and will look for hours to find good and healthy recipes. He knows what I can eat, what will not affect my sugar and what is good for my health. I could not be more blessed as a mother than to have such a great son and wonderful caring spirit to nurture.

He has come to realize that people have things in their life that may not be visible to the eye until problems arise. For me and for those around him, he is a great diabetes advocate. He does his best every day to help others understand diabetes.
