Sri Lankan WDD awareness campaign receives global acknowledgement

A diabetes awareness campaign developed by the Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka - a member association of IDF - for World Diabetes Day 2011 has been recognised as one of the best global advertisements for the week of January 11 by the website The campaign - 'Forkspoon' - aimed to raise awareness of diabetes on 14 November by taking an average teaspoon and cutting slits in it to resemble a fork, so as to reduce the amount of sugar that it could contain.

The teaspoon was distributed across a local chain of restaurants in the country and picked up by national television, enlightening the entire nation on the benefits of reduced sugar consumption in helping to prevent the risk of type 2 diabetes.
