Young Leaders from Japan

Hi! I’m Hisako, from Japan. I have had type 1 diabetes for 8 years. I was born in Kyoto on 15th September 1983 and grew up in Tokyo until high school. I then went to British universities for a BA in International Relations and an MA in Political Theory. Now I’m back in Tokyo and work for a pharmacy. In my spare time, I enjoy classical ballet.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in England. Having been diagnosed with such a life changing illness, my first thought was to give up my studies and go back to Japan. But my doctor and diabetes nurse said “You can stay here, continue your studies and manage your diabetes. There is nothing to give up!” I really would like say thank you to those health professionals who diagnosed my diabetes and introduced me to insulin therapy immediately after the diagnosis.
