Young Leaders from Palestine

Sahar Abu Rmyiss is spreading the word on the Young Leaders in Diabetes Programme in Palestine. As a girl of 12, she was diagnosed with diabetes and immediately decided she wanted to learn as much as possible about the disease and its impact. She got in touch with the Diabetics Friends Society in Bethlehem and gained a lot of knowledge on how to deal with diabetes and teach others to do so. Now, as a young woman of 24 studying dentistry, she is a volunteer in diabetes summer camps in the West Bank, which are supported by the Finnish-Arab Friendship Society, and works as a health educator for the newly diagnosed cases in Bethlehem. Sahar explains what she would like to achieve within the YLD programme: “The most important goal for me is to raise the level of health awareness about diabetes and giving a beautiful image of coexistence with diabetes in my country.”
