Tsegamlak Zerihun Tsigie

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1998.

Member of YLD since 2015 (YLD Mentor).

I am a youth leader in Ethiopian Diabetes Association since 2008. I am also one of the Young Leaders in Diabetes from Ethiopia since 2015. I graduated from Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development in Urban and Regional Planning. I was diagnosed after treatment of Hepatitis A at the age of 8.

My project: My main project is diabetes awareness in schools in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The project focus is on school teachers as currently number of children with diabetes are increasing in school areas. Most teachers have poor knowledge about diabetes and don’t know how to manage hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia. In general we want to clear the entire dilemma on diabetes around school. On average, it engages around 200 people per school. The other project I’m involved in is diabetes camps. I am working with my member association (since 2011) to introduce diabetes camp to Ethiopia. For 2nd time we had children camps and we are now planning to have teen camps in January 2017.
