Maja Vukovic

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2009.
Member of YLD since 2015 (Young Leader).

I was born on 28th July 1990. I have 2 sisters, both younger than me. I finished my master degree at the faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb and since May 2016 I am working in Germany in an engineer office. I got diabetes type 1 at the age of 19 and since then I am active in my community, but not just on state-level. I’m very active wherever my help is necessary. Every person with diabetes in my neighbourhood can ask me for advice and I’m doing my best to help them and to go together with them through all the difficulties in their lives.

My project: Right now, together with German representatives for “Insulin for Life”, I’m trying to introduce this mission in Croatian society. My first steps are directing the people from Croatia to send their insulin (insulins they don’t use anymore) to poor countries. A German organization, “Insulin zum Leben”, does help a lot. My wish is to make the same organization in Croatia so that sending insulin to poor countries is much easier for people in Croatia.
