Education resources

Diabetes is a great challenge in the developing world. Many children and adolescents with diabetes die quickly or are chronically unwell due to lack of availability of quality care. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Life for a Child Programme currently supports diabetes clinics/hospitals caring for children and adolescents in 46 developing countries.

The purpose of this section is to make education materials more widely available. Education of children and their families is essential so they can understand what diabetes is and live a healthy and full life. Likewise, health professionals need resources and training to provide quality care. The section will have pages in various languages. Please note that some pages currently have numerous resources, others have only a few resources, and some have none – as resources become available they will be added to the site. We thank members from the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) and other diabetes experts from many diabetes centres and associations around the world that have contributed materials for these pages, and welcome other existing materials that we can put up.

Please note that we have excluded languages that are essentially only spoken in developed countries (such as German, Swedish and Japanese) as these countries have their own materials available locally through their national diabetes association and diabetes centres.

If you have any materials that may be suitable for this section, or needs in any languages, please contact us via the details given below. If you would like to translate these materials, please contact us so we can advise if permission is needed from the copyright owners. If permission is granted, once the materials are translated please have them carefully checked by another health professional who is expert in diabetes care and also fluent in both languages concerned. Please also clearly credit the institution that developed the original resource, and provide Life for a Child with a copy.

The materials on these pages, and the links to other sites, contain diabetes education materials developed by health professionals and associations for particular local settings. The International Diabetes Federation and DiabetesNSW do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy or applicability of these materials to individual circumstances. Please check the applicability of the materials to your situation. For children and their families – do not make any changes to your treatment without first discussing this with your doctor.
