The Global Coalition for Circulatory Health (GCCH, of which IDF is a member) has issued a statement on a Draft Resolution to Strengthen WHO Preparedness for and Response to Health Emergencies, which is expected to be adopted at the 74^thWorld Health Assembly in May.

The European Union is currently leading Member States’ negotiation of the Resolution text. The GCCH statement is in response to a call for views on the Resolution from Non-State Actors. The statement asks Member States to:

• Include NCDs in WHO’s response to health emergencies
• Develop practical guidelines and recommendations to protect vulnerable people affected by NCDs
• Develop strategic responses and joint operational plans to ensure the timely treatment of cardiovascular diseases (including diabetes)
• Tax unhealthy commodities to finance current and future health emergencies
