IDF campaign on the language around diabetes

Diabetes increases the risk of developing acute and life-threatening complications such as blindness, amputation, kidney failure, cardiovascular events and can also lead to early death.

It is vital for people with diabetes not just to be aware of the potential risks but also to be empowered to engage fully with their health professionals on the best ways to tackle them. Sharing their experiences with their peers can also be inspiring and lead to improved health outcomes.

#Diabetescomplicationstalk is a Facebook group launched by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to raise awareness of complications among people living with diabetes, combat stigma and help improve interactions between people living with diabetes and their healthcare professionals.

The initiative aims to foster discussion on a broad range of topics and features personal stories of people living with diabetes alongside news and education material. If you live with diabetes or are a healthcare professional dealing with people living with diabetes, we invite you to share your experiences with us.

In addition to the Facebook Page, we will also have a broader social media campaign. This will feature personal testimonies (audio, video, or written) and visuals of people living with diabetes accompanied by a quote of their own on the topic of complications. Please browse the content on this page to see how others have engaged with this campaign, and if you wish to provide testimonies, visuals and quotes, or any other input for this campaign or have any questions, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
