IDF Diabetes Complications Congress 2018

The IDF Diabetes Complications Congress 2018 was the first in a new series of live educational events developed by the International Diabetes Federation to tackle the issues around diabetes complications. The event took place from 25 to 27 October at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India and attracted 1200 international and local delegates.

India is home to the second largest number of diabetes cases (73 million in 2017) with half of the people estimated to be undiagnosed. It was chosen as the destination due to the urgent need to increase awareness and knowledge of diabetes and its associated complications among the country’s health professionals.

The scientific content received accreditation from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) for 15 CME credits and from the Indian Medical Council for 6 credits, both acknowledging the educational value of the meeting.

The scientific programme was made up of 6 streams and consisted of a total of 65 hours of sessions. Over 2.5 days, 95 speakers from 16 countries presented in 5 parallel session to discuss with delegates the latest research, treatments and tools to limit and treat diabetes complications.

29 exhibitors showcased the latest advances in diabetes complications care and technology and 100 posters were displayed and presented.

The second IDF Diabetes Complications Congress will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2020. Stay tuned for more information!
