ePredice, the Consortium for the Early Prevention of Diabetes Complications in Europe, unites 32 European academics, public healthcare professionals and SMEs with the aim to assess the effects of various medical treatments and lifestyle interventions on different microvascular complications affecting people with intermediate hyperglycaemia and screen-detected Type 2 diabetes.
This research project comes at a time where new treatments for the early prevention of diabetes complications are increasingly needed. Type 2 diabetes and Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) are the major cause for morbidity and mortality due to associated complications in Europe.
The economic burden is steadily rising and, with poor quality of life for people with diabetes due to chronic treatment and multiple complications, early prevention could substantially reduce the socio-economic burden of diabetes in Europe. For more information, please visit www.epredice.eu
