European Parliament. Strasbourg, 12-15 November

Throughout the week, IDF Europe team will be present at the exhibition area (Flower carpet) with blood glucose testing offered to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and staff. The test, for which privacy and discretion is guaranteed, takes no more than ten minutes and is intended to sensitize about the importance of regular testing and early diagnosis. Besides, since Diabetes can be prevented and managed through healthy diet, this year in IDF Europe we propose a 'vitality dish' to have for lunch those days in the European Parliament restaurant.

The main course of the week will be the lunch debate taking place on the 13th November. Under the theme-this year “Families and Diabetes”, the debate is a cross-party event hosted by Francis Zammit Dimech MEP. The objective of this high-level debate is to facilitate a discussion between MEPs, the Commission and social and health experts on the importance of family, school, friends etc. on managing diabetes at different stages of life. Experts on the different life stages will offer perspectives and tools to face challenges that European lifestyle and its social environment is facing.

Diabetes is one of Europe’s biggest public health challenges. There are about 60 million people with diabetes in the European Region and its prevalence is increasing among all ages. In addition to the economic cost, diabetes has of course a strong impact on the lives of people who live with this chronic disease as well as their families.
