One of IDF Europe's main activities is Policy and advocacy and perform both at European and at regional-national level.
At European level, our main targets of IDF Europe are the EU Institutions (European Parliament and European Commission), the Council of Europe and the World Health Organization European Region.
At national level, the Federation acts as a bridge for its Members by informing them on the latest policy developments Europe-wide. This way, national members can perfom their policy and advocay activities at natinal level, taking EU level ones as a reference.
Since 2012, IDF Europe awards two IDF Europe Prizes in Diabetes yearly to reward excellence, innovation, and commitment in diabetes: the IDF Europe Young Researcher Award, and the IDF Europe Long-Standing Achievement Award.
These Awards aim at increasing awareness about diabetes and acknowledging outstanding individuals who are dedicated to improving the lives of people with diabetes.
2018 IDF Europe Prizes has new winners!
IDF Europe is thrilled to annouce that the 2018 IDF Europe Prizes in Diabetes winners!
This Prize is awarded to a young researcher, under the age of 40, who is involved in innovative patient-oriented research in diabetes and/or its complications. Their work should demonstrate commitment to diabetes research leading to improved health outcomes for people with diabetes.
IDF Europe is a federation of 69 national associations in 44 countries. We recognise the endless dedicated work of these associations to support the lives of people with diabetes in their respective countries and to prevent the condition.
The award for long standing achievement is supported by a sponsorship from Eli Lilly and Company.
In recent years, we have seen the emergence of a new type of communication around health issues where people directly affected by a disease become the focal point for the flow information. Social media, including personal blogs and exchange platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. now play a major role in communicating health messages which, when conveying accurate information, can be a great source of inspiration and support. For people with diabetes this usually translates into the provision of peer information mostly regarding daily self-management, patient empowerment and rights. The feelings of empathy, proximity and of being understood created by these channels are essential and demonstrate the success of such online platforms.
It takes time, dedication and talent to provide accurate, frequently updated and interesting information in a format which is of interest to the readers. IDF Europe would like to recognise this commitment by way of a Social Media Prize in Diabetes.
