• Brazilian study on effect of diabetes on the heart may produce new drugs

    A recent study conducted by researchers at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in collaboration with scientists at the University of Bonn in Germany, the University of the Basque Country in Spain, the University of La Plata, Argentina, and FIOCRUZ and Campinas, Brazil, found that the increase in glucose levels associated with diabetes causes a specific inflammation that directly affects the heart and decided to investigate this process.

    The research was conducted while causing diabetes in control mice (normal) mice and laboratory prepared that have become unable to produce a specific type of inflammation related to production of IL-1-beta.
