Professor Adel Abdel Aziz El-Sayed is the current Chair of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). He is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Chair of the Diabetes Unit, Sohag Faculty of Medicine, Sohag University, Sohag, Egypt. He graduated from Assiut University and received part of his postgraduate education at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, UK where he prepared his MD thesis.
Professor El-Sayed is a member of the High Council of Medical Sciences and Nutrition in the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and a a founder and ex-elected member of the Management Committee and treasurer of the Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG). He played a principle role in establishing the Sohag Faculty of Medicine and founded and chaired its Department of Internal Medicine for 12 years. He also served as General Manager of Sohag University Hospital for three years.
Professor El-Sayed is a member of the Board of Management of the Egyptian Diabetes Association and the President of the Upper Egypt Diabetes Association. He is also an associate editor of the international journal of DASG - Diabetology - and a member of the Scientific Board and reviewer for a number of national and international journals.
Professor El-Sayed has been an invited speaker at numerous international conferences all over the world and has chaired, presented and attended more than 150 local, national, and international conferences and meetings in Egypt.
He is the principle investigator of the IMAGE EGYPT STUDY on the prevention of diabetes in Egypt, in collaboration with Dresden University.
